Mental Health @ GradGPT

Resources for coping with the college application stress

Applying to college can be overwhelming
Let's look at how students and parents can manage anxiety and well-being during this journey.
Mountain of work
You're juggling many tasks – schoolwork, test prep, applications, essays, ECs ...

Notion planners are a great way to bring order to this chaos.
Dealing with uncertainty
When you're unsure about college, major, or location, don't worry! Here are two things to help you:

1. Talk to people you trust, like family, friends, and teachers. They can help you figure things out.
2. Remember that it's normal not to have everything planned out. College is a time to explore and try new things. Many successful people changed their minds and found a new path.
Competition
Their GPA is higher, is my SAT score good enough.....

Admission Committees look at more than just your scores (see common data set). Focus on your growth and doing what you enjoy, the results will come automatically.
Financial burden

Parents, we understand the toll those $50K tuition fee take on you. You don't have to face it alone. Many institutions offer financial aid and scholarships.

The federal student-aid site is improving and has many resources for you. GradGPT will also add new tools for easier access to financial aid.
Managing anxiety
Meditation and breath work take no more than 10 minutes a day, but helps a lot more than the hours spent on Netflix. Try the meditation course, you'll thank yourself later for this effort.
Laughing it off
When we're faced with troubles, we can smile back at them.

Check out the venting space and meme central in the community :) The most legendary ones get featured on the wall of fame below!
Finding balance
During this application season, don't forget the basics: eat well, sleep well, play some sport and take breaks.

Parents, this goes for you too. This time with your child is precious before they leave the nest, make sure the family finds some time to have fun together.

Your first session

This is the first session will give you an introduction to mindfulness meditation, and will help you to start a regular practice.
Day 1
10 min

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of developing your awareness of the present moment.
Day 2
10 min

Vipassana

The ancient Buddhist tradition of Vipassana, translated roughly as "clear seeing", uses techniques to develop awareness and clarity in the present moment.
Day 3
10 min

Non-judgement

This session introduces the concept of non-judgment - observing thoughts and feelings as they arise, without judging them.
Day 4
10 min

Mindful living

Mindfulness in daily life - during classes, exams, while working on your applications etc. will make you aware of thoughts and feelings as they come and go.
Day 5
10 min

Science of meditation

Meditation has been shown to increase brain matter in the hippocampus, improve memory, increase pre-frontal cortex density, improve problem solving, regulation of emotions, shrink the amygdala, reducing anxiety and stress.
Day 6
10 min

The present moment

We tend to get caught up ruminating on the past or planning for the future. When we become aware of our thoughts in the present moment, we can learn to let them go.
Day 7
10 min

Negative emotions

Mindfulness can help us to manage difficult emotions more effectively. By becoming more aware, we can process negative emotions in a healthier way.
Day 8
10 min

Sounds

In this session, instead of using the breath as the point of focus, we will use sounds. Pay close attention to every detail of sounds as they arise.
Day 9
10 min

Conclusion

This is the final session in the Medito beginner series. Whether you've completed these sessions in 1 week, 2 weeks or 1 month, the important thing is that you're learning a practice that you'll be able to benefit from for a lifetime.
Day 10
